What’s it really like entering the real estate business?
Our office general manager Susan Beach knows better than anyone, so today she’s joining me to share some facts and debunk a few common misconceptions about entering the real estate business.
In helping people discover whether real estate is really the right fit for them, the two biggest misconceptions Susan comes across are A) you don’t need any startup capital; and B) you can be very successful in real estate working at it only part-time.
After dispelling those two points, Susan’s next order of business is usually determining the amount of startup capital you actually need. She prefers that you have at least six months’ worth of savings before you transition full-time.
We work hard to set up our new agents for success.
The first step from there is pre-licensing school. You can do this either in person in a classroom or online. Susan prefers the classroom environment because it is much more interactive. This session costs anywhere from $350 to $475 depending on your area. If you do the class online, it lasts as long as you want it to. If you do it in a classroom, the session usually lasts about five weeks. Once you complete pre-licensing school and you pass your state boards, you’re free to join an actual real estate company.
For any new agents starting at Keller Williams, we begin our own training process for them immediately. Our specialized training program is called the “Launch” program, which lasts for exactly 100 days. In this program, you are also assigned a launch coach.
Perhaps now you see why you can’t be successful in real estate doing it only part-time—we can’t train anybody properly who only does it part-time.
